Do you often marvel at combative scenes throughout a film or wonder what goes into a creating a fight? Combat is not only an essential tool to add to the actor’s skills, but it is also another form of telling a story.

This introductory course will expose students to basic unarmed safety, terminology, footwork, choreography, and basic unarmed stage combat techniques. The goal of this course is for students to develop a healthy respect for stage combat and it’s balance of safety vs. the illusion of danger, while learning how to safely have fun with unarmed fight choreography.

About Beks Freeman

Beks Freeman (they/he) is a level 2 actor-combatant with Dueling Arts International. They graduated from Purdue University with a BA in acting, where they began their stage combat journey. They’ve worked with Great Lakes Theater, Purdue Theatre, the Ohio Shakespeare Festival, the Houde School of Acting, the Hoosier Shakespeare Festival, and the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival as an actor, teacher, fight choreographer, or teaching assistant.

Houde School of Acting does not offer refunds if you drop/cancel a class or workshop. If you drop a class no later than a full week before the first day of class we will offer a full credit for the following month of class.

Due to the format of the classes, there are no make-up classes. We encourage you to attend as many classes as possible but don't worry if you miss a class. You can pick up your studies where you left off in your last class.
